I am not going to say the Michelin's nor the Pirelli's are crap, I just
would never mount them under my Dakota, ever. If you like them and you want
them, then buy them. If you want an all terrain tire, and RARELY go off
road, then sure they might be fine. I have seen many 4WD SUVs/Trucks with
the LTX AT stuck in areas which should have been a breeze; even in the snow.
I have pulled out many 4WD vehicles with the Pirelli ATs as well as with the
LTX AT's in about 10 of snow where they provided no traction at all. People
seem to think that the more expensive of tire they buy, the better traction
it will have. True, these tire are rated very highly by Consumer Reports for
SUVs and trucks, but the rated them based on things like cornering, braking,
and road noise. Do I really care about road noise???????? Corning in my Dak
going 70mph......just isnt going to happen. Like I said, if you want a good
overall 'street' all terrain tire these might be fine, but I wouldnt ever
venture too far off road with them. I loved my Hoosier Radial ATs and also
currently an extremely pleased with my Dunlop Radial Rover RVs. I would even
take my old Goodyear Wrangler AT's over the LTXs or the Scorpions. Even
though the Goodyears were bald at 30,000 miles, they had decent offroad
traction. My Dunlops came with a 50,000 mile warranty.
