It's all about prepping for the worst and driving for the best. Well, in
fact, the DAK2K is my commuter, but necessary since I risk my life every day
on the Chicago Toll Way system. Dropped my 98 in pothole the size of a
mortar crater not long ago, and swore I'd beef the axles because of it.
I know I won't find a true truss for the front, I misspoke, looking for the
beefiest skid plate I can find there. If it turns out there is nothing
around, I'll find me a master welder and get something put together. Long
time ago, I had my axles trussed up with 1/4 inch plate and rolled high
tensile stock cranked em down moderately and never had a moment's trouble.
I trusted my welder without exception, but those fellas are getting hard to
come by these days. And he's in Germany besides.
I'll check out the Mopar offerings, but recently they seem to be more show
than go with that sort of thing, no disrespect to DC but the cosmetic
disclaimer on their push bars kinda soured my attitude a bit.
I know how important these things are, used to rock crawl the lava fields in
Hawaii, and I could not imagine a more austere challenge if I was wheelin a
boulder field on Mars, what a riot of a time, strong kidneys required :)
I'm offroad through and through, with a bunch of emphasis on sane and safe
(relatively speaking) pursuits. The Waimea mountain range in Hawaii was the
most fun I believe I have ever had with my clothes on, and I want to find
some future awesome memories here on the mainland, and be prepared to meet
the challenge of a 4+ Moab Scale trail when I get to one.
Don't suppose you have the part number for that plate do you?

Dakota
and I don't know how you would make one for the front (it's IFS).
I bought MOPAR steel skid plates for my '98 from a dealership... Not sure
they
are still making them (they switched to plastic) and if they are I don't
know if
they will bolt up to a 2000 Kota. Might be worth a call to your dealers
parts
dept. though. A couple of other guys are "rolling their own" plates... If
anyone's finished maybe they can post how they did it and how difficult it
was
to do.

Howdy,
I was wondering if there are any DAK 4X4 owners on the list who have had
any luck locating axle trusses for the 98-00 axles, both front and rear.
Also, is there anyone out there who has found skid plates yet?
