Thermal Sensor for Electric Fan

Well, I went and bought a Perma-Cool 18" fan, and a 170º fixed
thermo-switch. The instructions show the sensor banded against the radiator
hose. Has anyone attached the sensor in this fashion? Just wondering if
they work sufficientlyor not. Wanted to get the Hayden sensor since someone
mentioned they liked it so well, but this was the only one Summit carried.
