I don't know about safety but, I use 7" wheels on my race car. I wouldn't
go larger than a 225 mm width on a 7" Wheel. The tire no longer has a flat
contact area with the road. The tire tread will curve upwards on the edges.
I recommend and 8" wheel if you want to go with 245/45/17's
