A new, supercharged, 3.3-liter V6 engine producing
210 horsepower and 240 foot-pounds of torque
will
be optional in the fall on the King Cab and
Crew
Cab models. That engine will join the lineup
of a
2.4-liter I4, available on the regular-cab and
King
Cab Frontier, and a 3.3-liter, conventionally
aspirated V6. Nissan executives say they hope
to
sell about 110,000 of the redesigned four-door
Frontiers a year. Even in its current blander,
underpowered version, the Crew Cab has given a
boost to Nissan's truck sales, accounting for
more
than 30 percent of Frontier sales.
In 1999, Nissan had about 8.5 percent of the
million-vehicle compact truck market in the
United
States. But that percentage already is
approaching
12 percent and might rise with the 2001
Frontier
Crew Cab.
