My '95 Dak v6 does indeed have a crank position sensor. From what I
understand it does it exactly what it sounds like it does. The crank has
a magnet on it and the sensor will 'sense' this everytime it goes by. If
the crank position sensor goes bad, like it did on my truck, it can
really screw stuff up. It causes a rough idle from hell and the truck
will usually not run. It will not startup or stall if already running. I
paid $45.60 for one at Advanced Auto.
