Re: Front tow hooks or hook ?

The whole discussion about pulling from 2 points or just one, really dealt
with how the hook or recovery point was set up.
A good class III hitch is balanced very well and delivers any force applied
to it to several connection points in the frame, therefore displacing the
amount of stress any one point receives. Better for the frame, and safer.
Now, if one or 2 or 17 tow hooks are anchored to the frame properly and
re-inforced with extra bracing material or what-have-you, then it's gonna do
the job just fine and no bent frame will result.
I've got a recovery shackle on my hitch and have used it a couple times
already. One time my friend has to leave some slack, take a little run at
me to pull me out of the snowbank i got myself lodged in. (It was about 4
feet deep, packed snow from a plow truck, and about 20 feet wide). He gave
me a couple yanks and after we looked under to make sure everything was ok,
and saw no problems at all.
When i do the tow hook install i'm definately going to use an extra brace
between the frame rails so that there is almost no chance of bending.
Mounting a single hook, or recovery shackle? Sounds like an idea that needs
to be explored further. But probably by someone that has more experience
with tow hooks than I.
