If you're not pinging or detonating now, you don't need an octane booster. In
other words, if the octane requirements of your engine are being met with the
gas you use, adding octane booster alone will not add power. To oversimplify,
octane booster makes it harder for the fuel to burn (and take longer), so
that ignition is properly controlled by the ignition system. Adding it when
you don't need it would be equivalent to retarding the timing, and could cost
power in an otherwise optimized combination.

Of course, if you raised compression or advanced the timing to the point of
needing an octane booster, total power output *would* also increase. Make
sense?
