DETROIT (AP) - About 100 employees of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealerships
around the nation have reported suffering from food poisoning - possibly
from boxed banquet meals shipped by DaimlerChrysler AG. DaimlerChrysler
spokeswoman Kathryn Blackwell said Tuesday the employees, from about 30
dealerships in 17 states, had reported being sick with a "24-hour, bad
food-type reaction." Two people spent a night in hospitals, she said. The
first report of food poisoning came Thursday, but it still wasn't clear if
the meals were the source, Blackwell said. The meals, sent to congratulate
dealerships receiving the company's Five Star rating for sales performance,
included ham, turkey and several side dishes. They were packed in ice and
shipped by next-day delivery last week by Toledo, Ohio-based HoneyBaked
Foods Inc. The boxed banquet was made only for DaimlerChrysler, according to
HoneyBaked spokesman Dan Kurz. The package also included pasta, cheese,
bread and mustard. "Nothing has been confirmed," Kurz said. "We're testing
all the products." DaimlerChrysler has about 4,500 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep
dealerships in the United States.
