  Mike, I read somewhere, that on the Gen II models, that the battery to
starter wire would get some kind of break in it and would do as you are
describing. I'm not for sure if it's the the connectors at the starter or if
it's the wire with the fuse in it going to the alternator. You might check
on one of those "used vehicle" and "blue book" type sites and you might come
up with the problem. I do know that I ran across it once(don't remember
which one) and it wasn't in the TSB bulletins.
