The 380 Crate doesn't have the best cam for towing, but that's easy enough
to change. You'd be hardpressed to match performance with your stock 318
even with a blower. The crate engine HP/Torque specs are based on dyno
runs with a 750 holley DP and 1 3/4" primary long tube headers. Smaller
primaries will move the curve down. But shorties will move it back up.

Being new to trucks, or at least new trucks (my last truck was 1967 D200
Big Block beauty) I'm kinda surprised that about the only headers anybody
puts on their trucks and SUVs are the shorties. Has anybody tried to fit
regular headers on their trucks?
