Spare Tire Locks

What I did was, My wife found a very heavy 'Job Site' cable lock by Brinks at
Wal Mart. (about $15 I think...) It's about 5/8" thick and about 7 feet long.
Then she also got me a Brinks lock that goes with it that has an extra long
opening. I double wrapped the cable around the spare (after turning it over so
the 'good' side of the wheel points upwards so it won't get beat up by
bouncing road gravel and stuff) Then I locked it to the safety chain loop on
my trailer hitch. I also oiled the heck out of the lock itself. Poured some
Mobil-1 inside, wiped it off good, then put a plug of silicone on the
keyhole. You can peel it right off with your thumb, but it'll keep crud out
until needed. Just thought I'd pass this on....YMMV

Well, i bought one of these "shft" style locks for my truck. I've got the
factory 31's on my Dak, and the shaft locks don't fit, they're not long
enough to fit the extra width of this tire.
I had to take it back and they gave me a cable-style which i have yet to
hook-up.
I can't help you on price since i got mine from the only local truck
accessories store.
When you're lookin around, just get a lock with a warranty.
And when you put it on, i would tape a small piece of plastic or rubber to
the keyhole so it doesn't gum up with road crud, and rust shut. Obviously
that would suck huuuuuge----the one time you get a flat, you're in the
middle of nowhere (of course) and your lock to your spare is rusted shut.
Just a helpful hint i hope,

Frank WJ
