It came straight from the Mopar Performance Magnum Engines Book written by Larry
Shephard. The MP engine and chassis books have LONG been considered the bible for
any good mopar person (ask the MML or your dealership). Check the archives - I
quoted the entire section on synthetic oils and why MP doesn't recommend them for
our engines. You want the book? Guess where you buy them from? A Chrysler
dealership of course. Part number is 4876668 with a list price of $25.
Now another quote from the "Acknowledgements" section...
"The information presented in this manual was compiled from various sources. Much
of it has come from Chrysler Engineering, the Chrysler Service Manual Department,
and the Chrysler Historical Foundation, and reflects not only our experience with
performance research and development, but our racing involvement as well. To this
I must add my appreciation for the tremendous job that our independent testing
facilities have done relative to the information contained in this manual."
-L. S. Shepard
It seems that LOTS of people here have opinions on the subject of synthetic oils -
personally, I'm just adhering to what I know to be an excellent reference text on
the subject. I mean seriously - who here thinks he/she knows more than Larry
Shepard and the performance division of Chrysler itself about mopar engines???????
Sheesh - you would think it were related to religion or politics or something.
Latr,
Shane
