I am not a muffler expert or anything, but I think
this is caused by decreased backpressure, not
increased. A freer flowing exhaust will lessen the
backpressure...I am almost certain. Hence the popping
sound...my truck does it as well, not real bad.
If the backpressure is lessened too much you will
loose low end torque. It will pull harder in the
higher RPM's though. It is a trade off.
I am looking at changing my muffler in the near
future. I have a Dynomax Turbo Tube now...(don't use
this = LOUD). I have duals after the muffler...I am
thinking about either using a stock muffler because of
the lessen backpressure from the duals, or a 3 chamber
flowmaster(I am trying to quite the cab resonance)
....they are withing $15 of each other according to
carparts.com and summit. As far as a recommendation,
Dynomax have a lifetime warranty I think, cheaper, but
are probably a little lesser quality. I don't think
that you can go wrong with Flowmaster.
Just my opinion.
