Has to be a hoax.
1 - If AOL were to instigate a chain letter like this, they'd take a
huge beating from the Internet community. (i.e. they know better)
2 - AOL has no way of knowing what users receive this message, so even
if they did want user feedback, they couldn't get it via this method;
they would need to set up a mailbox to send comments to. (i.e.
dontkillim@aol.com...)
3 - Why would AOL get rid of something that is probably making them a
tidy profit via ads?
4 - If AOL was planning to get rid of IM and wanted user feedback from
IM users, it would be incredibly easy for them to post a message
to everyone through the IM system itself; either in place of one of
the advertisements, or as a system upgrade, etc.
I wouldn't worry about it. Just another hoax started by yet another
loser with too much time on their hands. :-)
