I think the Monroes are like the best of the inexpensive shocks, and the
Bilsteins are like the most inexpensive of the good shocks. If you've ever
done serious mountain bike shopping, you know what I'm talking about. Cheap
mountain bikes run from $200-400 (those wanna-bes at Wally World are NOT
mountain bikes!), good mountain bikes run $500-900, and the really nice ones
run over $1000 . Difference in price is mostly differences in design and
components - the cheaper bikes are easy riding, but the pricey bikes are
just a little more comfortable and heavy duty. So, for what you're getting,
there's not a whole lot of difference between the most expensive Monroes and
the cheapest Bilsteins, except the Bilstein probably have higher-quality
components and maybe a little better R&D, IMHO. Personally, I'm running the
Sensa-Tracs, but my bike is a $600 Diamondback =)
