I would say it is your fuel sending unit, in the tank. If you are going to
replace the sending unit, go ahead and just buy the entire fuel pump
assembly/module for about $135. I once just replaced the sending unit, cause
the guage wasnt working properly, and about a week later the fuel pump died.
You can easily do it yourself and save some labor bills. Let me know and I
will give you some info and help on dropping the tank and replacing
everything. The stock Carter fuel pump assembly and fuel sending units are
crap, plain and simple. I am now on my truck's 4th or 5th fuel pump
assembly.
