Ford, Chevy, Dodge, whatever...it doesn't matter as long as you have the
Catalytic Converter and O2 sensors properly installed on the exhaust system,
you're emissions compliant. However, noise restrictions in your local area
are another story. Check to make sure, but normally...you can have
turn-downs before the rear axle (with mufflers of course) and still comply
with the "Modified Exhaust" laws.

I believe, past the passenger compartment will do.
Ferds do it from the factory

may/may not be worthy of this very good technical discussion: What does
exhaust pipe length do for performance? Is having the shortest possible
exhaust system the best? For legality reasons/emissions, is there a length
the exhaust pipe must be on truck? I want to say it just has to go past the
axle, but then again there are Fords from the factory which have the exit
pipe coming out on the passenger's side, BEFORE the rear tire/axle. Anyone
know?
