10W40 is more than adequate. I've tried 15w50 Mobile-1, 5w50 Mobile-1,
Castrol Syntec 10W40, Castrol 10w40 (Dino Oil), Valvoline 10w40, Valvoline
Synth-Blend 10w40, Amsoil 10w30, Redline 20w50 (when it was really hot here)
and a few others. All of them react the same and the lifters/roller rockers
all sound the same. The choice is totally up to you depending on how ofter
you change the oil. If you change it at every 3500-5000 miles,
regular/non-synthetic oil is more than adequate. If you plan on driving
more than 5000 (or even 10K miles) on a single oil change, then go with
synthetic.

If it means anything to you, my old Javelin (200K+ miles) has never seen
Synthetic Oil and the oilpan/block internals are very clean. The motor was
refreshed at 185K miles and there was no excessive scarring on the cylinder
walls, no excessive bearing wear (they actually looked very healthy), and no
sludge build-up anywhere. (Oil changes were every 3000-3500 miles with
Castrol GTX 10w40.)

Subject: DML: Magnum noise

Question.What is a good oil to use to quiet down a V6(or V8 I
guess)Magnum engine? I don`t know,what is it,roller lifters or roller
rockers,or sumpmm like that that`s so noisy in these things? ( I know
sumpmm`s not a word, but you hear it all the time.)This winter I changed
the oil and used 5w30 to help it crank better in 0 degree weather. Now
I`m wondering if the motor`s not a little noisier with 5w30.It`s due for
an oil change in 800 miles,and I`m going back to 10w30 anyway,so what`s
good to use? Right now I`m at the point(near 6000 mi.)where I could
start using synthetic oil.Is there any kind of DML general consensus on
this?Or am I just AOL?Wait a minute,that`s SOL!! Sorry.
