The legality of doing it myself is questionable at best. I don't have a
driveway, as I live in an apartment complex. Finding enough flat space
is an adventure in itself. I'm not clear on whether I'm allowed to
(reading through my lease leaves me still wondering), and I think the
state has some laws about doing work in "public" parking lots and the
like. I thought I was going to get hollered at when putting on my
tonneau on Friday as the office manager walked by, but she just said
"very nice truck" and kept walking.
Plus, I don't have any of the gear (ramps & such).
Total bill? Ugh. $125 or so. $25 per diff and transfer case, $45 for
the oil change.
