I think it boils down to viscosity breakdown. Most regular oils are down to
like 65% of original viscosity after 3000 miles but, synthethics are better
and can last longer. if you use the same filter, the oil will get just as
dirty in the same miles. Most synthetics recommend you use a premium ($$)
synthetic filter (preferably with their name on it).
