auto tranny slippin?

I've been noticing lately that after I get on it hard that I smell what I
would say is clutch smoke (my 1st auto tranny) could this be the bands need
adjusting, or should I look elsewhere for the source? I've got 89k hard
miles on it, and just noticed the problem really after the MPI.
