I've found in 47 years of driving that proper air pressure in the
tires and avoiding hard acceleration/jack rabbit starts improve
gas mileage by a noticeable amount.
Hiway driving vs start/slow/stop/go of city driving also has
a noticeable affect on mileage but this is not a controllable
factor. Hiway driving at 55 mph will give better mileage
than at 65 mph.
LSD adds a bit of weight, rotational energy expended and added
friction but not nearly as big a factor as the above.
Just my personal experience and reading reported studies.
