That may be the norm. What size gas tank do you have? If you have the
15 gal (standard, I believe), that's 14 MPG if you run the tank dry.
Assuming you fill up when the light comes on, and the light comes on
with 3 gallons left (just a WAG there), that's 17.75 MPG.

Do you have a 4x4 or 4x2? If it's a 4x4, do you have the tire &
handling package (31" tires)? What rear axle ratio are you running?

My '99 318 Auto 4x4 with the 31" tires gets anywhere from 11 to 17.5 MPG
(that's the range I've observed in the year I've had it) depending on
many, many factors. Hopefully with the tonneau, QuickD intake, and
warmer weather, I'll see the 17 MPG figures more.
