With all the discussion of max boost and twin turbos, it should
be mentioned that the most effective "killer" of turbo engines is
detonation. I've run 15+PSI with no intercooler, and 24psi with
an IC present. Both situation were with cast pistons & crankshaft.
Now, with that said, I've killed engines with only
8psi... The critical variable is detonation... Correct fueling is a
very close 2nd.. I have an old web page that discusses the use
of monitoring devices for my Syclone friends, but the principles
can be applied to many turbo applications..

Another critical issue in an intelligent turbo installation (IMO)
would be the presence of a knock sensor. Once knock is detected,
the timing or boost can be adjusted in miliseconds to address it.
Just because you can't HEAR detonation, don't assume it's not there.

Execellent point Mike. I used to run 10lbs of Vortech with the stock motor.
My J&S saved my butt many a time when I didn't know what I was doing.
