History and Latest update:
originally, my problems started with the TBI unit not creating enough
vacuum to be able to find that out I replaced almost every sensor the Cat.
Converter and I rebuilt the TBI unit. That took care of most of it but it
still has a lot of the same symptoms (rough idle and excessive gas
consumption) but then I started to hear ticking coming from the heads. That
led me to call around getting information about the cost and compatability
of heads. So far, I have decided that as nice as Magnum heads would be my
enlisted military pay check cannot afford to do that many modifications. So
what I am thinking right now requires a little bit of backtracking. When I
had rebuilt the TBI unit I had noticed that the rebuild kit included
everything needed to rebuild the TBI unit on both the 3.9L, the 5.2L, and
also the 5.9L engines. Well the biggest difference between each was that the
3.9L/5.2L spacer plate skin was noticably smaller than the 5.9L spacer plate
skin. So in my crazy old head I decided to start looking for a TBI
unit/intake off of a 5.9L to slap on my 5.2L. Yesterday, I finally found one
it will cost me $100 for the TBI unit and $100 for the intake. According to
the guy selling it the intake ports are a little bit bigger than that of the
5.2L saying that I would need the heads too. Personally I think he was just
trying to get and extra $350 out of me. Well in my way of thinking is that
if I get my 5.2L hads ported to match the 5.9L intake there souldn't be any
problems. The other thing that I have been thinking about is to just have my
heads rebuilt. Thus, keeping from spending too much money because with the
fact that the dak has over 120K miles on it its due for a rebuild anyway so
I am trying to save up enough to make it worth it. So how does this sound to
you guys. and once again all suggestions are appreciated.
