ignition Halo light woes!!!!

Well, i decide to finally give it a shot.

i took off the plastic housing, i found the bulb, but no wiring. So i cut
the wires as far as i could from the bulb. I then got a set of wires
(speaker wires, all i had), connected them to the bulb, and ran them
below the steering column. I got one end and pluged it into the fuse for
the parking lights (for (+) positive power 15 amps) and then i got a pair
of plyers, yanked out the door switched, found three wires: black,
blue/black, and blue/pink (or red). I tried it in one of them , and low
and behold.....

IT ACTUALLY LIT UP AND TURNED OFF WITH THE DOOR SWITCH!!!

as i basked in its warm glowing warming glow, reality struck: i started
smelling smoke! the wire i had just placed was so hot that i actually
burned my-self when i touched it!

besides the fact i didnt use electrical tape, i used poor quality
thin-gauge speaker wire, and i didnt even know what the hell i was
doing.... what went wrong? wrong wire to connect on the door switch? was
15 amps (fuse) a bad place to connect postive (+)(too much for a small
light)? i did it with my fog lights and it never smoked. someone with
some electrical expertise tell me how to get this thing to work without
causing a fire? where else can i get (+) power?

(I dont have convenience lights (light group), or the time delay, so
thats not an option)

how can i fix it?

thanx
