Re: gas mileage, gas gauge

I think the 24 gallon tank is only an option with the QC. Your window
sticker should have the tank size on it. I'd be very surprised if you
have the 15 gallon tank, but it's certainly possible. My money's on the
22 gal. tank.

When my ('99 318 22 gal. tank) gas light comes on at the last line
before the red line, I've got 5 gallons left. Mileage on the tank can
be anywhere from 210 to 250 or more miles, depending on weather, driving
conditions, tonneau, etc. I haven't let it go long past that point;
most I've put in is about 20 gallons. The gas guage is nothing more, to
me, than a "decent guess" - I base everything off how I've been driving,
the mileage, and when (if) the gas light comes on.

I have seen anywhere from 12 to nearly 18 MPG on my 318. Really, the
answer to what your mileage is "it depends." I've run up to Potsdam, NY
from Syracuse a few times the last few months, and always get better
mileage on the return trip, by at least 1 MPG. And just running on the
highway at 65 MPH instead of 70 will give you a nice improvement.
