In case you missed my first post, I am attempting to increase the gas
mileage on my 1998 Dakota CC, 4x4, 5.2L/Auto, 3.55 limited slip diff.,
31x10.5-15" tires, using various aftermarket products that are so often
discussed here, while continuing to use 87 octane gas.
Beginning odometer reading: 25,420 miles.
Current odometer reading: 26,835 miles.
Everything was done with painstaking care to acheive accruate results.
The test run is a 50.5 mile round-trip from Crewe, VA to Ford, VA, to
Crewe, VA with the cruise control set @ 55 mph. This is pure highway
driving on a good road with no interuptions. Before the tests I used
Valvoline SynPower fuel system cleaner. Well these are the results so
far:
1. Stock, with 10W-30 Valvoline synthetic motor oil. 20.89 mpg.
2. Taylor Spiro-Pro 8mm ignition wires, Standard Ignition
distributor cap & rotor, Champion Double Platinum spark plugs.
This combination increased mileage +.97 mpg,
(21.86 mpg).
3. Synthetic lubricants in the power steering (Valvoline)
& differentials (Red Line) and Red Line Water Wetter
Supercoolant increased mileage +.42 mpg.
(22.28 mpg).
4. K & N air filter (OEM type replacement) decreased the mileage
-.57 mpg (21.71 mpg).
5. DynoMax UltraFlo 3" cat back exhaust system decreased the
mileage -.17 mpg (21.54 mpg)
Note: This particular test may not be completely accurate
due to rain & wind encountered during the test run, I will
re-test ASAP, possibly today !
I'll re-test again after 2 or 3,000 miles and again after 7 or 8,000
miles to see if the computer really learns and adapts to the changes.
Any questions ?
Larry
