I'm not sure about being able to advance the timing, but if you can...

Run 91 (or 92) octane fuel, advance the base timing 2 - 3 degrees BTDC from
factory, set the plug gap .005" - .010" larger than factory (no more than
.045") and make sure the coil is, preferably, an aftermarket coil which can
produce a "hotter spark". The factory computer won't advance the timing
automatically.

BTW: This was done on my '69 Javelin and has been that way since 1973. The
performance went up as well as the mileage.
