Hey all .. I told my bro-in-law I'd run this by the list to see if anyone
had any suggestions.
He has a '99 Ram CC/4x4 with the 5.2 L engine (automatic)
His truck has been burning a lot of oil... but there is no evidence as to
where it is all going!
Daily driving (2 lane roads, but not real hi-way speeds), he goes thru a
quart a week.
However, in highway driving he burns A LOT of oil... how much?
My house to his house (40-50 mile RT) he goes thru 1.5 quarts per trip, this
is running highway speeds (60-70 MPH).
We checked his truck yesterday, no signs of oil leaks anywhere... engine is
real clean/dry.
Checked filter, drain plug, around valve covers, PCV, and filler caps. Not a
drop.
Exhaust is not 'smoky' and doesn't smell like oil. No oil underneath in
parking spots or his garage.
Anybody have any suggestions of what to look for?
Is this normal? Doesn't seem like it in my experience, but some vehicles do
burn more oil then others.
He's taking it to the dealer later this week to have it checked out, but
would like to have some ideas before he goes into see the service manager.
Thanks,
Duff
