Jim,
I would start simple. Check the spark plug and their gap; plugs may need
replacing or just may need a regap. Check the spark plug wires then for
cracking or arcing. Check the distributor cap/rotor for wear on the contact
points and for a possible crack in the cap. A new good cap and rotor will
only cost $10. If this has been ruled out, try pulling the computer's fault
codes. Here is the link how to do so:

This doesnt guarentee all the sensors are good, just that they are still
within acceptable specs. You might want to try pulling out the oxygen sensor
and possibly replacing it; if it looks dirty. I replaced mine at 100,000
miles, and it was dirty. It did cost me about $75, so it is not a cheap
sensor. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? Mine takes only
10 minutes to change and costs about $12; it should be located on the
driver's side inner frame rail, about 1 foot infront of the gas tank. I
change mine every 15-20,000 miles and every time it is dirty inside(yes I do
cut it open to check!). If you do replace the fuel filter, afterwards run a
good fuel system cleaner through your Dak to help clean things up. If this
still comes up empty and you are still having problem, try cleaning the
throttle body. It is only held down by 4 bolts, and can be cleaned within 10
minutes and a $3 can of throttle body cleaner. Just have to buy a new TB
gasket, which is like $2. While you are at it, if you do clean the TB, clean
the AIS Motor. THis is the sensor located on the backside of the TB towards
the firewall. Just unbolt the 2 torx headed bolts and pull the sensor out.
Spray the tip down with some TB cleaner and wipe off the carbon buildup.
Hope this helps and gives you some ideas. Let us know how things work out.
