I agree displacement is hard to beat... When adding displacement
and staying in the same engine family, you often end up with
more torque, but at a much lower RPM.. I had a 350 Vega bracket car
years ago, with a very mild hyd cam, 12:1 comp, and mild fuelie heads.
With a 750 holley, at 2900 lbs, it turned 11.70s. Changing ONLY the
shortblock, (keeping the cam, heads, intake carb, etc) and dropping the
rear gear from (get this) 5.38 to 4.10, the car went from 11.70's to 10.70's.
Despite the drop in rear gear, the strokey 400 inproved the 60ft times from
1.65 to 1.55 sec..
Sorry for non dak content, but the "displacement " rule applies everywhere.
It is hard to defy.
