Will,
Did you leave the radiator cap off and let the system burp out any air that
is in the system? I recently helped my dad put a new radiator, water pump,
coolant hoses in his 88 Taurus, and that car had alot of air in the cooling
system. After we initially filled up the radiator and let it run(cool of
course) with the radiator cap off, we added alot more coolant, just because
of all of the air which got forced out through the radiator cap area. I
would check this first.
