Brian and everyone else, thanks for the help and putting me on the right
track.

I'm surprised to hear that I'm (probably) the only drop top on the list. I
only drive in the wind so when I needed a truck for business I got all
depressed. Then I came across the Dakota, snatched it up and everything's
rosy again.

The roof and back window are the rag top. The bottom of the back panel
connects to the cab wall. They installed a roll bar behind the seat
(although it won't handle a roll-over). When the roof is folded back, two
static straps run from the left and right outside of the roll bar and
suspend the roof over the bed. It just sort of hangs there.
