Well... my 1992 5.2l Auto trans has begun to show signs that it's life is short.
It downshifts from OD to 3rd prematurely when decelerating off the highway and
would not shift into OD when towing recently. With 172k miles on the clock, I've
been weighing my options. One is engine and tranny replacement with a younger JY
unit. There is one local yard that I trust enough to believe that a 5k mile
engine/tranny would actually be a 5k unit. Here's the question...
Will a later model 5.2l, 4 speed auto bolt *AND* plug directly into a 1992
Dakota of the same configuration? Or were there wiring and sensor changes that
might cause re-wiring or doing things like using the old peripherals (alt,
AC...) which of course I'd want to use the newer ones.
