Lightning...and yes it was the older style. The reason I'm not sure if it
was a real Lightning is because instead of the tube rear bumper it had a
painted step bumper. It also had the "Lightning" decal in bright orange vs
the stock blue decal. Other than that it looked exactly like a Lightning.
It sounded pretty bad a$$ though. Back to the story...I was coming home
from a day at the golf course and was getting on the express. So, of course
I was on the gas. I pulled up along side this guy in what I thought was
just a F-150, then I saw the Lightning decal and heard a nice rumble from
his exhaust. He gave it a little gas then let off a few times, and I did
the same. Next thing you know we both punched it doing about 75 mph. With
my 3.92 gear I think I had the advantage with my RPM's already at over 2000
RPM. I pulled away from him with no problems. I kept it to the floor and I
was way ahead of him when I l!
> ooked down at the speedo...~125 MPH!!!!!!! The reason it is approximated
is because my speedo only goes up to 120. I guess the Mopar PCM really did
remove the speed limiter. I slowed down, since I was getting off the
express way. This allowed the Lightning to catch up and it turns out he was
getting off at the same exit. As soon as we got off the e-way, we were
lined up at a light. I couldn't of planed it if I wanted to. I jumped out
ahead of him through first and second. He pulled up a little closer when I
shifted into third...damn pause between second and third. But, he never
pulled ahead of me. By then we were hitting some traffic and then he turned
rather abruptly down a side street. I guess he was pissed off or something.
Do these guys in the Fords ever learn? That is the second, old style
Lightning, I've raced and won. Does anyone know what these things ran in
the 1/4 when they were stock?
