should be able to splain it.
Let me tell you what little I know.
If the CAB needs to be replaced, the rear axle type and tire revolutions per
mile must be programmed into the new CAB. For axle type refer to Group 3
Differential and Driveline. For tire revolutions per mile refer to Group 22
Tire and Wheels. To program the CAB refer to the Chassis Diagnostic manual.
The CAB continuously monitors the speed of the differential ring gear by
monitoring signals generated by the rear wheel speed sensor. The rear wheel
speed sensor is attached to the exciter ring which is press-fitted onto the
differential carrier next to the final drive ring gear.
This info is forwarded to the PCM.

Then explain how it is that when we changed out the gears...from 3.55:1 to
4.10:1...the speedo was/is still accurate.
(Wonder if they changed something for the '00+ trucks on the speedo

But according to my FSM, rear end gearing as well as wheel size are all
input by the CAB to the PCM to determine speedo reading. That's why the CAB
needs to be programmed when your rear end gearing changes and/or your wheel
size (overall diameter) changes.

SHouldn't have to have anything adjusted at all. From '98 on up, there's no
speedo-gear in the transmission and no calibration required. We went from
3.55:1 to 4.10:1 on my buddys '98 Sport (5.2L/Auto) and the speedo is still
accurate.
