I sent off that Jeff Lightning story to some of the Ford Engineers I know,
not to include Charles Wyman, the PM for the Lightning SVT engineering for
Roush, since he reads this DML board. They laughed and explained that the
R/T stock, would beat the F-150 hands down without the supercharger. But if
the R/T was on the same footing, the R/T would clearly be the winner based
on specifications. I explained to the Lightning owner (Jeff) the results I
received back and explained to him, I can name two R/T with the same
capacity - namely supercharged and ready anytime here in Cali that would be
glad to race him on the street. He responded and thanked me for the
specification of the R/T and explained that the driver- who was a D*&K
started it and he needed to be reminded of who rules. I can agree on that
but damn if Bernd V6 was on the east coast it would have been a great race.
Charles, I have a Marine here that has a 2000 Lightning and wants to know
how to increase the HP from 360 to the 2001 385HP version?

I hear ya man. I've had a job since I was 12 years old (paper boy) and have
had to pay for things such as my own clothes at that age. My dad works his
ass off 6-7 days a week and I've learned a lot from that, but he also knows
how to have a good time and really enjoy his time off. I know I got my dads
work ethic and it really has paid off...by the way I don't work as much as
him (only 5-6 days a week - 40-60 hours). I've had friends that have had
every thing given to them. Back in high school they were always driving
nice new cars, always had the designer clothes, etc... Yes, at the time I
was jealous, but where are they now? They're 26 years old and living at
home with mom & dad. They usually have about 5-10 jobs a year and are
always broke...unless mom or dad gives him some cash. I, on the other had
don't have a job I have a career (big difference) that I actually enjoy. I
make good money and have fun at work and it's what I've always wanted to do
since I was abo!

15. I paid my own way through college but didn't graduate because I
decided to go to work...I don't regret it one bit. I'm married with a 7
month old baby. My wife doesn't have to work, she stays home with the kid
(not that it's not work to stay home with the kid, but I was referring to a
job where she would get paid). She drives a 2000 Neon that we paid cash
for. I put $10K cash down on my 2000 Durango. We're buying a new house
that I'm able to put at least 20% down. So, I don't think I'm doing to bad
at 26. It really makes it all so much better when you've worked your way to
get where your at. You really appreciate it a lot more. And if everything
works out as planned I'll be retiring at about 50 so I can sit back and
modify my Dodge's. That's really when all of this hard work will pay off.
I guess it's not there fault though. I'm sure at 16 if any of our parents
handed us a brand new Dak we wouldn't say, "no thanks, I want to buy my
own". I thought I'd never say this but my parents really did do a pretty
good job at raising me...IMO.

Well I have been sitting here for the past few days just reading this
lightning/rt/morality/saving/godknowswhatelse thread go on, holding my
tounge waiting for a good place to jump in...and i have found it. Not that
i need to say much, but just a few sentences...so,
Well thanks to my parents who insisted that I save my money for when i go to
college, insisting that i save money in an account for later use (Truck
Fund), I, now at 20 years old, just bought a 20,000 truck, and can afford
it, and pay it off in two years. Had my parents just let me be, i never
would have go to school at all, would still be walking wherever i had to go,
and would barely have enough cash to eat with each night. I was once 16
too...not that long ago, but once 16, and was often jelous of the kids that
got cars/trucks for there birthdays, thinking they were very "Cool".
Granted only being four years later, they are the ones still living at home,
begging there parenst for money cuz they dont know how to save money, work
at a "real job" and so on. So all in all, im very glad my parents made me
do what they did. Now i can be the "Cool one" cuz i can buy my own truck,
with no help from my parents, and still go out and eat a decent meal when i
want to. There, my two cents., oh, and thanks Mom and Dad.
