I only had a slight problem with my brakes on my Caravan and that was the
rear brakes, no problem with the front. On my 1999.5 Volkswagen Jetta, I
now have 13000 miles and no brake problems whatsoever. We'll see with the
Dak. It's only got 5000 miles but I'll keep an eye on it.
The funny thing about the Caravan. When someone other than Dodge overhauled
the brakes they would squeal like crazy (front). I would bring it back to
Dodge and they would re-turn the rotors and put on semi-metallic shoes and
the brakes would be great for 30000-40000 miles. This happened twice. Now
only Dodge gets to touch the Caravan's brakes. I don't know when they
stopped asbestos.

Thing is, this isn't just a problem with Dakotas. Its a problem with every
vehicle since they told the manufacturers to quit using asbesdos in the
pads. They had to switch to softer metals and presto instant warped disks.
Got a friend with a 99 Vette. He says all the Vette owners have a similar
problem, first time they get on the brakes really hard the rotor warps.

Please reference 7614884 when you contact. I will post the answer I
received from DC in another post shortly. EVERYONE that has had brake,
rotor, and/or pad problems on their Daks (or any other Mopar vehicle)
should
contact DC immediately using the above reference number. Maybe we'll
get a
response that isn't a form letter. Look for the post of their initial
answer in a few minutes.

It seems that warped front rotors are a common problem on
newer dakotas. Anyone who has had problems should let
Chrysler know about it!!! Even if they don't go as far as making
a recall (I seriously doubt it), we should still make EVERY
EFFORT to let them know of the problems. Maybe they'll
get sick of hearing about it and actually do something to
correct the problem in the future at least.
You can submit feedback directly to Chrysler at the following
webpage:
http://www.dcanswers.com/contact/
I urge EVERYONE who has experienced brake problems to
let them know about it. I sent them my complaint, and they
said something to the effect of "The Dakota trucks have
received very few customer complaints in regards to brake
problems" - we need to CHANGE THIS. Spread the word.
It only takes a few minutes to submit your complaint, and if
they get enough feedback, maybe they'll realize that we the
consumers are not satisfied.
These trucks should not have warped rotors every 20k miles...
