I remember back in the 70s when GM started using the "windshield antenna"
that was close to the distributor on some models with the distributor on the
rear of the engine (small block Chev v8 etc) that a dielectric grease had to
be used on the cap and rotor if you expected to get noise free reception on
the AM radio. I also discovered that Ford recommended using that same
grease on their caps also for the same reason although they did not use the
windshield antenna. I believe that electronic ignition systems that used
much higher voltages than the old points system necessitated use of the
grease. It is white if I remember right.
