<< Well guys, I'm finally breaking down and building my own intake. Couple of
 questions: (I have a 4.7L)

 1) What's the outside diameter of the pipe coming off the airhat? 3.5"?

 2) What's the best size K & N Filter to get?

 3) I was thinking about getting pipe the same diameter as the pipe from the
airhat, clamping them together, and then going into the cone filter.
Basically, that's what I was going to do. Any comments/suggestions? I do
NOT want to use the stock flex tubing.

 Thanks for your help

if i remember correct it was 3.5 inch off the throttle body. get rid of the
air hat. if you uncouple the corragated hose that feeds into it and jam your
hand in it you will feel the funky resonater compartment off towards the
driver side of the air hat. i used a 3.5 inch rubber coupling(for coupling
cast pipe) and ran it into a 3inch pvc 90 which was glued to a 12.5 inch long
piece of 3inch pvc(to get it accross the engine) then a 45 (to get it down
beside the engine) and into a 3inch pvc to 4 inch abs coupling to mate it to
my k&n filter from my 98's kit. don (maldbnsf@aol.com if memory serves
correct) has a site with pictures of his poboy intake. if you want to take
the filter all the way to the front next to the radiator you need to move the
cruise control actuator out of the way. it is behind the passenger side
headlight. in the 98 it was on the firewall on the passenger side. i never
bothered doing this on mine because my k&n filter is to wide to fit in that
area with out using a bunch of strange anles and i don't feel (personal
opinion no proof at all) that i could gain much by putting the filter there
that i can't gain by just removing the rubber plate that sits on the
passenger side of the rad. improvement in acceleration over stock was huge.
incidentally you should insulate your poboy and put a reflective outer
surface on it. i used a roll of this insulation from home depot when i did
my intake and ac lines. they also sell aluminum duct tape their.
good luck. its a good mod
derek
