4.7l spark plug install & 3923 questions

Well, installed the Autolite 3923's in the good ol' 4.7 today. Let me just
say, those are the HARDEST spark plugs to install, IMHO. Pain in the ass to
install. (Had to take off the airhat, move heating hoses or whatever those
two hoses that go accross the top of the engine are. Oh well. Can't notice
that big of a difference, except the fact that it definitely idles
smoother. I gapped em at .035" instead of .040". What differences should
this make? Should be beneficial, correct? Also, how would you know if you
only had 7 cylinders going or were having misfires?
