Jack, I heard this also, The tech that looked at my truck last week made a
comment to me that he'd be glad when they got the "new" flash for the
5.2L/5.9L to fix the pinging problem. I asked him would they retard the
timing and he said he thought thats what they would do, he didn't know how
much, 4 degrees is alot!! Performance will suffer, Like you said, if you
have the Mopar PCM, thats the whole point of having it, for the timing
advance. If I had a 5.2/5.9, I would not get my truck flashed, I'd run 93
octane, with additive if I had to, but not a 4 degree retard!! I hope this
is not true, but seems to be the case :( .

<Subject: DML: Latest software update for your PCM
<Just an FYI.
<I was at the Landmark Dodge last Saturday having them take care of a few
<small warranty items on my 99 SY RC R/T and one of the things was a dead
<spot in the pedal.
I< talked with the guy working on it, who seemed fairly knowledgeable (a
<first for any dealer tech I have dealt with) and he said he really
<didn't want to flash it because the latest software update backs 4
<degrees of timing off !! Yep, he said that on some vehicles that are
<pinging and they don;t have the intake gasket problem, DC has written a
<program that retards the timing by 4 degrees! Anyone wanna guess at what
<that does to performance ? I mean, that is one of the main things that
<the MP SBEC does to increase HP is to ADVANCE the timing over stock
<specs.
<Anyone else hear of this yet ?
