As long as you keep the engine running, and the intake above water, you
should be OK. Have a look at this pic ->

I gathered from an episode of Trucks! a while back. If you shut the
engine down with the exhaust submerged...consider yourself screwed.
But before you go running for the water, keep in mind that there may be
dangerous things lurking under there. Adam ripped a nice hole in his
sidewall at Jon's in July while playing in the river. Never saw it
coming. Changing tires underwater is NOT a task I want to undertake.
