On my '93 it's on the drivers side right under where the back of the air
filter passes over the fuel rail.

I have looked on both fuel rails on my engine and cannot find anything that
remotely looks like a fuel pressure release valve (Tire pressure valve type
thing). Maybe they are not used on the 1997 318's.
