Thank you Jon Smith, Bob T, and Jon Steiger for the reply's! I hope you guys
are patient as I am very new to the dodge/mopar scene. I converted from a 97
ford f-150 that went through three tranny's in 8,000 miles (I couldn't mod
it cause it was never runnin!!). That truck was the biggest piece of garbage
I have ever seen. Not that all are bad, but holy cow I lost a lot of faith
in ford from that thing. I LOVE my dakota though! Ihave had it for about 18
months now and have had 0 problems in that time and 25,000 miles. These
trucks are excellent!
Anyhow, back to the moddin :-) What is the purpose of the belly pan and
gasket in the first place? To trap fluids if they are leaking? Why are they
so well known to be a problem, just cheap gaskets or cheap hardware from the
factory? The install pics look pretty straight forward and the kit looks
like a great help. Can I order the M1 or MPI straight through dodge/mopar or
is it from a third party manufacturer?
Sorry for all the questions, i'm just tryin to familiarize myself with this
truck before I go balls out moddin it =]
Thanks guys

"it's only wrong if you get caught"
Jimmy,
The MPI intake manifold is exactly the same as the M1 except that the
fuel injector bosses have been drilled out and it includes an adapter to
mount the stock TB to the intake. (The M1 is a 4bbl manifold.) Neither
manifold has a belly pan gasket to blow out which is nice. :-) The only
"gasket blowing" type problem with the MPI is, when installing, you have to
be careful to put some RTV at the back of the manifold, and fill the dowel
locating holes. Some people have reported a leak at the back of the
manifold. I got lucky with mine since I didn't know about the problem at
the time I installed it, and I haven't had any leaks. Its not really a
problem if you seal it up well enough though. (Spend the $12 on a can of
Rite Stuff and save the headaches.) :-)
