VMP: Leak and Jon Smith Manifold Report

So I drove my ass all the way up to VMP to meet some
Daksters, total of 7 hours round trip from Charlotte
(don't do the math, it wasn't legal :-). VMP was a
damn fine track, nicest I've ever been to. My first
run looked like a 16 year old in his Dad's Viper.... I
spun the tires all the way to the 1/8 mile, someone's
got a pic of that stupidity :-(
Next run was against a Charger R/T 440 Magnum.... he
was in my blind spot the WHOLE race, I ran a 14.998,
he passed me at the end... 14.995!!! wow, damn close.
But then the time-slip guy tells me I'm leaking
antifreeze. Antifreeze was in the grill (WTF?)
battery, under the res. and on the airdam beneath the
rad. No one could find a leak anywhere. I bought
some water, and headed back to charlotte, temp guage
never moved away from it's normal cold position.
So... my view of Jon Smith's modded manifold. I'm
sayin it got me AT LEAST a tenth. I haven't run 14s
in for damn ever, and ran 15.1 all day at the rock.
Plus, more than one person has told me that VMP is .2
slower than the Rock, so we could be talking about 3
tenths. PLUS the fact that it *looks* stock, and
stock is street legal, which is more than the MPI can
say, for you Cali boys. Also, the MPI (I've heard)
hurts low end.. .Jon's didn't touch it. High end was
definately helped out, 70mph to 90 is like buttah!
Truck pulls hard over much more of the rpm range, too,
especially 3000+, where as it used to wait until 4000
to start pulling.
Numbers: best run at the Rock last week was 15.122,
best run yesterday (only real run) was 14.998. Trap
speed did not change, though(90.47, 90.61). Maybe
Jon's manifold flattend the hp curve, but didn't get
me a higher peak? Maybe if I'd run again I would have
hit 92. Who knows? We'll see when I go to the rock
again.
THEN there's the price difference, you don't have to
buy a damn kit et. al. to get this thing in, don't
have to chop up your compressor, etc. etc. etc.
So, in short, I'm a very happy camper!
