Basically, you just need a clear view of the sky and a source
of power. Some GPS units have an external or detachable antenna
which would be convenient as far as packaging goes. You will
probably want to mount it where it has the biggest view of the
sky.
(How do they calculate the tach readout? Not using the GPS, I
assume?)
