Sorry guys, but that's B.S.

Carbon fiber is not only lighter, but STRONGER in a crash if molded with any
kind of skill. (or with a high carbon/lb. ratio) Note the McLaren F1
supercar, which, when crash-tested at 35-40 mph, recieved only minor damage
to the very surface of the body panels, no structural damage whatsoever, and
could have easily been driven right back to the factory. I have heard
stories of guys on the autobahns of Europe crashing spectacularly at 150+
speeds, flipping the car a rediculous amount of times and still there was
very little damage to the "driving compartment", as well as no injuries or
deaths reported. There is a bit of difference between the million-plus F1
and the next Viper or S7, but not all that much... It's still much more
crash-worthy than steel. I think the confusion about carbon fiber panels
stems from the fact that the point of "a little damage" comes a lot quicker
than steel, but the reality is that the point of complete failure for steel
comes quicker.
